The State of New York considers all bank accounts as dormant and abandoned property if there has been no activity over the past three years. Each year, the state requires all credit unions and banks to turn over all account balances that are considered to be abandoned.
Abandoned accounts may be reclaimed by the owner, even years after the funds have been turned over to the State. If you want to check to see if you have any dormant accounts that have been sent to New York State, access the claim page with this link:
